Blessings in the Valley

Pastor Ronald Bernier, Master Builder Ministries Inc.

Yesterday, as my wife and I returned from her mother’s memorial service, we learned of a young woman’s sudden death. Bernice’s mom was laid to rest at 92 years old, while this other young woman was just 32. Death is never easy on a family whenever it comes. Each life has their connections, family, influence and importance. Our Lord has our days numbered. We do not understand His wisdom, but find peace as we look to Him for our strength.

Reading Psalm 84 this morning, there is a reminder of the blessedness of being in the presence of the Lord, abiding in His tabernacle. Part of the Psalm describes a journey we all experience to some decree. The difference can be in Who our faith and focus is on. All people go through troubles. Not all are comforted however. The Psalmist declares:

“Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, whose heart is set on pilgrimage. As they pass through the Valley of Baca, they make it a spring; the rain also covers it with pools. They go from strength to strength; each one appears before God in Zion.” Psalm 84:5-7

The Valley of Baca is the Valley of weeping. None of us like to be in that place. Yet the Psalmist is saying that as we pass through this valley, we make it a spring and the rains cover it with pools, which is blessings. In other words we can see God comfort and encourage us. Through this journey the Lord strengthens us as each of us comes to see Him revealed in a fresh and new way as we come before Him.

If you find yourself in the Valley of Baca, know that it is not your destination point, you most continue to journey towards the Lord and His tabernacle. You will find renewed strength as you experience His showers of blessings in your life. For the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
